The title Broken Lead is symbolic to her breaking away from being timid. It is the transformation of thoughts onto paper. In this complication, the authors shares Many of her emotions are comprised from sadness, heartbreak and feelings of loneliness. She was motivated by others and she used similar experiences to get her poetry on paper. Over the course of her life, her feelings of self-worth became unbalanced.

The Pain of a Teardop

Pain comes to use in many forms. In Latonya S. Hicks’ sophomore poetry collection, the Pain of A Teardrop she takes a look into deeper thoughts as she began to master her craft of writing. She would use inspiration from her surroundings to chronicle her feelings. She begin to use her pain as a foundation for her writing. Many of her poems mirrored pain that she felt as well as from similar experiences from others. Her writings in The Pain of a Teardrop allowed her to realize that pain is all encompassing. By embracing it, she was able to release many feelings of abandonment, uncertainty and despair.

Carrying Her Past

A child’s role is to listen and respect the choices that their parents make for them. Her aunt and uncle would raise her well but she was the only one who could patch the scars from her past and learn how to adore her inner self. Now twenty-five year old Dania has entered a new stage in her life called “love.” Self conscious about her decision to let others into her life, she lives guarded up and has failed to trust anyone. Her childhood crush returns back into her life only to find her in the arms of another man, but the choice is hers. Who will she choose with her dreadful past and complacent mentality that true love does not exist. The ending will shock you.

This compilation of poetry was very compelling to her. It is where she would use her voice in conjunction with her words to share with the world. Still inspired by others, her writing would take on a different meaning as she started examining the power of being able to translate what she envisions. From love to grief to sorrow, she uses writing as an avenue to connect with her readers. The coming of age experience allows her to establish her intentions as a poet and writer. Her goal is to use her poetry to evoke emotion in a way that inspires others to connect to the gifts that can be used by others by simply looking through one’s eyes.

Dining with God is a compilation of poems derived from the gifts that God gives us so freely. For Author Latonya S. Hicks, one of her greatest gifts has been her writing. The ability to be able to express emotions through pen and paper has allowed her to connect with many readers from different walks of life.
